Tuesday in Teacher Academy

Today we toured the Big Brown power plant. I felt like a kid again :) asked a bunch of questions and was able to take many pictures. I wish that I could bring some students to a place like this. The power plant tour was very impressive. We took an elevator up on the plant and walked around the outside. You could feel the whole structure vibrating. Safety equipment was required including hardhat, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Our first speaker today was from Luminant energy and spoke with us about the current power on the ercot (Electric Reliability Council Of Texas) grid and how the different sources of power contributed to the whole. I found it very interesting and informative. We conducted an erosion lab, density lab and a lab on effects of temperature on muffins :) We ended the day with a mine safety and training session in preparation for tomorrow. All the participants are a fantastic bunch of professionals and I feel privileged to be a part of the program.
